How to Get Involved
Justices of the Court
The Judicial Court comprises of the Chief Justice, the Vice Chief Justice, and seven Associate Justices who hear disputes among students and those affiliated with the university.
Associate Justices take office upon receiving a nomination by the Student Body President, undergoing a Senate Judicial Subcommittee Hearing, and obtaining a two-thirds approval by the Student Senate. Application openings are typically announced on the court’s Instagram, @tamujcourt.
Justices are sworn members of the Court and are responsible for constitutional interpretation, legislative interpretation, election regulation, and conflict resolution. In such matters, the Justices ask questions of the parties involved during a hearing and are charged with resolving disputes based on the evidence, testimony, and arguments presented before them.
Judge Advocates General
The Judge Advocate General Commission is a department of the Judicial Court and comprises of six Judge Advocates General who are available to serve as counsel for those involved in appeals before the Court.
Judge Advocates General are selected internally by the sitting Justices of the Judicial Court. Application openings are typically announced on the court’s Instagram, @tamujcourt.
The responsibilities of the Judge Advocates General include performing discovery and research for cases, assisting and representing parties on appeal before the Justices. JAGs are required to maintain impartiality through all elections during the year. Judge Advocates General work closely with fellow JAGs, always seeking to advance the cause of justice for appealing students in cases and controversies within the Court’s jurisdiction.
